Links Wanted
We welcome suggestions for web sites to include on this page. Most welcome are sites of an individual, family, community or educational nature. We will not normally consider company web sites, unless some contribution to the wider community is clear, which should be listed in either our business or shop directory.

Simply The Best?
Is the web site in our Simply The Best category the best web site that you've ever seen? We want to know about other web sites that have that special mix of graphical flair and technical competence. Just e-mail us with the site details and, if we agree, we'll add a link to it in our Simply The Best section.

Just For Fun
Preston, Wendolene's dog in the Wallace and Gromit films, from Aardman Animations. Animator Nick Park, the creator of Wallace and Gromit, comes from Preston. Aardman Animations also created the famous clay character Morph. Our eldest daughter, then about 2 years old, used to cry when Morph disappeared at the end of each TV episode. Goodies to download if you're prepared to look around.

All About Me! has gone. Former Prestonian Brian Hunt did give what we thought was a very funny account of his childhood. Echoes of Adrian Mole.
Art Galleries and Museums
The Lowry at Salford Quays. Works by L S Lowry, contemporary artists and more. The Artworks gallery offers a sensory experience enjoyable by children and adults alike. The web site is modelled on the Lowry building. Our link cuts out one of those flashy but tedious introductions.

If you can spend a day in the Salford area you might also like to visit Salford Museum and Art Gallery and Salford's hidden treasure, Ordsall Hall. More information about Salford from Salford City Council.

Places To Go and Things To Do
Fun For All. A guide to activities, events and places of interest in the North West of England

Preston Playhouse Theatre. The Playhouse Theatre building was originally a Quaker Meeting House but now holds a 228 capacity theatre, rehearsal rooms and a licenced bar. An active schedule of plays. Charitable status under the name Preston Little Theatre.

Dukes theatre & cinema. Worth the journey. This Lancaster based theatre has acquired a well-deserved reputation for innovation and entertainment. We're big fans of the summer outdoor productions in Williamson Park and the family Christmas show is particularly popular. Lots of mainstream and independent movie screenings.

The West Lancashire Light Railway. Narrow gauge passenger carrying railway located in the village of Hesketh Bank between Preston and Southport. Timetable for their steam-hauled trains on the web site.

Simply The Best
The Settle - Carlisle Railway Development Company. This beautifully crafted site is dedicated to England's most scenic railway. The site includes access information, details of free guided walks and statistics on all the viaducts including the famous 24 arch Ribblehead viaduct. Note, the pages on this site have grown longer since we first viewed it and it's no longer quite as elegant looking as it used to be.
