Preston MPs, their expenses claims and the general election
We have a page dedicated to Preston and Lancashire MPs and their expense claims. As the general election approaches we may be able to offer some useful comments or observations. Our approach is not party political but focuses on issues that might affect any consideration of the wider suitability of potential candidates to be an MP.
Featured MPs include Mark Hendrick, the MP for Preston whose constituency home is in Fulwood, Nigel Evans, the MP for Ribble Valley whose constituency currently includes Fulwood and Ben Wallace who represents Lancaster & Wyre and whose revised constituency will include Fulwood from after the forthcoming election.
Sponsored Bicycle Ride in aid of the David Mather Foundation
On 9 August 2009, Rachael, Kate, Larisa, Lucy and Rachel from Fulwood cycled 26.3 miles in aid of the David Mather Foundation. Their ride took them through Deepdale, Frenchwood, Cuerdon Valley Park, Whittle-le-Woods and into the outskirts of Leyland, before they turned back for Fulwood via Penwortham, Avenham Park and Moor Park.
Dressed to go. Left to right, Rachael, Kate, Larisa, Lucy and Rachel.
Wheels at the ready.
Carefree cycling in Cuerdon Valley Park.
A car park snack in Whittle-le-Woods.
Total journey time, including an early detour for a bicycle pump, about 5 hours.
Dukes theatre & cinema. Worth the journey. This Lancaster based theatre has acquired a well-deserved reputation for innovation and entertainment. We're fans of the summer outdoor productions in Williamson Park and the family Christmas show is particularly popular. Lots of mainstream and independent movie screenings.
Preston Impact Youth Group. Impact is a Catholic Church supported initiative which brings young people together for fun and action. It's run by young people and wants to bring about change on matters that affect young people.
Our site of the month is the House of Commons
The House of Commons introduction doesn't mention the MPs' expenses scandal, but the expense claims of any particular MP can be viewed and downloaded via Allowances by MP. This pages provides a list of all MPs with links to some of their expense claims. At the time of writing the Metropolitan Police Service are apparently investigating a small number of MPs for possible fraud.
